The Residential Rental Licensing (RRL) Pilot Program, launched on January 1, 2024, is an initiative designed to strengthen local oversight of Brampton’s low-rise private rental housing sector.  The program is intended to enhance housing quality, improve safety standards, increase accountability among landlords and track rental housing trends. The pilot currently operates in Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7 and requires landlords of properties with four or fewer rental units to obtain a license to operate.

The pilot program will allow the City to evaluate the framework’s effectiveness in improving oversight of rental accommodations, gathering insights on property conditions, safety, and neighbourhood preservation. The results will guide the City's decision on whether to implement the program citywide, and how best to balance the needs of renters, landlords, and homeowners.
