The City of Brampton is undertaking public consultation to consider expanding its residential rental licensing program to Wards 2, 6, and 8 to address property standards and safety concerns.

The program enforces property by-laws and the Ontario Fire Code to maintain neighbourhood character and protect renters.

Who is required to get a Residential Rental Licence?

  • Rental properties that are operating in Wards 2, 6, and 8 are being considered to add to the RRL pilot program
  • Properties that are renting four (4) or less units
  • Owners of rental housing units
  • Operators of rental housing units
  • Dwelling units used or intended to be used for a Rental Housing Unit

The pilot program will evaluate its effectiveness, gathering insights on property conditions, safety, and neighbourhood preservation.

The results will guide the City's decision on whether to implement the program citywide, balancing the needs of renters, landlords, and homeowners.
